Explorers Pre-School is a committee-run setting in Henstridge, Somerset, for children from two to four years old. It operates during term time only, from Monday to Friday between 8.45am and 3.15pm. The pre-school accepts government funding for eligible children. At its inspection in December 2024, Ofsted judged the overall effectiveness to be 'Good'. The report noted that leaders have created strong links within the community and that the committee is committed to ongoing improvements.
The curriculum provides varied experiences and focuses on helping children to develop independence. For example, children pour their own drinks and clear their plates after snack time. Children have daily access to the garden for fresh air and exercise, and the outdoor area has been recently renovated by staff and parents. Staff promote healthy lifestyles and good oral hygiene, and they work with parents to support children’s speech development. Staff use observations to identify any gaps in children's learning and work with local health visitors to provide support.

Staff complete regular observations and assessments, helping to identify any gaps in children's development. Leaders have recently linked with local health visitors to support children and parents, helping to close gaps in children's learning.
Outdoor space
Younger children build their strength, coordination and balance as they confidently walk down the steps to the garden. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise every day, supporting their physical development and well-being. Staff and parents have recently worked together to renovate the outside area. This has impacted positively on children's love of nature and wildlife.
