Inclusion & environment
Staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) very effectively. The special educational needs and disabilities coordinator advises staff on ways to help children with SEND express their needs. For example, children use 'communication boards', 'now and next boards' or other visual cues to communicate what they would like or need.
Pre-school-aged children develop their spatial awareness and understanding of the world by playing alongside staff outside, collecting bark chippings, and pretending to make tea. However, staff do not consistently motivate and engage all toddlers outdoors to further their learning.
We can’t recommend First Steps highly enough. Our daughter has been there for 2 and a half years and absolutely loves it. Every member of staff is so lovely and welcomes everyone with a huge smile and knows every child’s name. Everyone takes the time to get to know each child’s personality and individual needs. Our daughter has ADHD, sensory seeking needs, cognitive and speech delays. This was picked up at a very early stage by staff and things put in place immediately to help with her development. This early intervention has made such an impact in her early development and learning. SENDCO have been absolutely amazing, she has been continually monitored and statagies changed every few months in order to continue her development, learning and to get her ready for school. We have had so much help in getting her additional support as well as speech and language therapy. She now also has an EHCP in place before she starts school. We could not of asked for a better start for our daughter, thank you to everyone at First Steps for being such an amazing start to her journey. Xx
Read on GoogleFirst Steps is a wonderful setting. All the staff know our children and their needs well and communication is excellent. The SEN provision for our eldest really helped him to progress and transition well to school. It makes our life so much easier knowing they are safe and happy while we are both at work.
Read on GoogleMy son has been attending First Steps for over a year now, originally I was going to move him to a pre-school attached to his siblings primary school once he turned 3, but have since decided not to due to the great relationships he has with the staff and children. The nature steps program they run is not something I’ve seen in a nursery before, he absolutely loves it and is always coming home excited to tell us what he’s been up too.
Read on GoogleAll 3 of our children have attended First Steps and we couldn't be happier with the service they provide - the improvement in their speech and general ability at a young age was really noticeable compared to friends children of the same age. The staff are fantastic and they especially enjoyed Nature Steps:) Now our older two regularly attend Blues Club and they are always really excited to go and see old friends. Thank You!
Read on GoogleCouldn’t ask for anymore from first steps our child has been here from 10 months and now turned 4. I don’t know what I would do without the level of support provided by all staff and SENCO. Lots of opportunity for outdoor learning. Very experienced staff who provide a caring environment for children to learn and grow ❤️
