About this day nursery

Foulsham & Bintree Playgroup, established in 2003, is a term-time childcare setting for children aged 2 to 4 years. Based in Dereham, the playgroup operates from 8am until 4pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9am until 3pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Awarded an overall "Good" rating by Ofsted on 2 October 2024, the playgroup provides a nurturing environment where children develop strong bonds with attentive staff, particularly their key person. Children are encouraged to express themselves confidently and learn important social skills like turn-taking and understanding clear behavioural expectations, fostering a calm, safe, and positive atmosphere.

The curriculum is thoughtfully planned by managers who possess in-depth knowledge of child development, ensuring learning opportunities are tailored to individual needs. The playgroup actively supports children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND); staff undertake research to promote children's development and work closely with families and other professionals when extra support is required.

Both indoor and outdoor learning experiences are valued. For instance, children enjoy outdoor play, such as filling watering cans to create puddles to jump in, a key way children learn while engaging with the natural world.

Staff also skilfully promote mathematical language and foster a love for books and reading, including offering story sacks for use at home to support early literacy.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

When children need additional support to make progress, staff carry out their own research to find out how they can promote and support children's development further. When children and their families need extra support, leaders work closely with them and other professionals. This helps to ensure children's safety and well-being, and helps parents to access appropriate support.

Outdoor space

Children take turns to fill a watering can and transport the water to create puddles, which they then gleefully jump in. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.

This really is a fantastic playgroup. It's friendly, supportive and fun. It feels like a home from home placement which makes the whole ordeal of leaving your little one for the first time an easy experience. My little one has only been just over a month (once a week) and already she has made friends, bought back handmade cards and paintings and even a clay snowman. I would recommend to all my friends.
