Growing Beans Tooting Preschool, established in 2024, operates as a childcare setting for children aged 2 to 4 years old. Located at 227 Mitcham Road, London, SW17 9JG, the preschool offers a consistent environment with its all-year term time status and opening hours from 07:30 to 18:30, Monday to Friday.
The setting places a strong emphasis on fostering positive relationships, with children behaving well, showing kindness to each other, and willingly sharing during play. Regular outings to the local nursery, also run by the provider, allow children to enjoy outside play and gain regular exercise and fresh air.
Staff actively share information with parents to support learning at home and help children develop crucial self-care skills, preparing them for their next steps in education. While the setting is meeting safeguarding standards, and leaders and staff have made strides in curriculum planning and professional development, there are identified areas for improvement related to the oversight of provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and the targeting of learning needs, particularly in communication, language, and mathematics.
The acting managers and new staff team are actively working to address these areas to ensure all children make the best possible progress.
Our ethos
The heart of our Lucky Beans ethos is bespoke, child-centred care that will give your child that 'home-away-from-home' feeling. Unlike other nurseries, we keep our numbers small so that each setting feels truly like a family. We dont believe in stuffy or traditional childcare - our innovative and holistic forest-school approach involves plenty of opportunities for inspirational learning outdoors and in nature! We keep each nursery small in order to focus on your child's specific development. Our forest school ethos is at the heart of everything we do and we emphasise active child-led learning above the commonplace style of childminding where children may be stuck in a room for the entire day. We also feature many strengths-based activities like music, Spanish and tennis in preparation for primary school and beyond!
What it's like
Significant changes in staffing arrangements have led to some gaps in leaders' oversight of the setting. Processes to assess and monitor the needs of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities or who have barriers to their learning are not fully effective. The acting managers and newly formed staff team have taken prompt action to develop curriculum planning so that children engage in a broad range of activities across all areas of learning. Overall, children make steady progress, although weakness in teaching results in the curriculum planning being less targeted to meet all children's individual learning needs, including their communication and language skills and mathematical development. This hinders children in making the best progress they are capable of.

Inclusion & environment
The inspection found that significant changes in staffing arrangements led to less oversight of provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) or barriers to learning. Processes to assess and monitor their needs are not fully effective, and the report identifies delays in making referrals to other agencies for support, assessment or funding. Leaders have recently secured additional funding for children facing barriers to learning, but procedures to measure its impact are not fully established. Staff work closely with parents of children with SEND, sharing information about progress, but planning for activities is too broad, and children's learning intentions are not specific enough to match individual learning needs.
Children keenly participate in regular outings to the local nursery run by the provider where they enjoy outside play, and gain regular exercise and fresh air while on outings and during outside play. They develop their physical skills and coordination while running around and confidently use a range of play equipment, such as wheeled toys, see-saws and hoops.
The report notes that children with barriers to their learning may not have the communication and language skills to actively respond, and highlights that staff identify some children may benefit from using visual aids to support their communication and language skills, though this is not consistently embedded in practice.
