About this day nursery

John Catt Educational, now part of Hachette Learning, is a publisher specialising in educational resources, including guides to independent schools. They offer extensive overviews of various educational institutions, from nurseries to colleges of further education, in London and the wider South-East region of the UK.

Their publications, like "Which London School? & the South-East," provide essential information for parents considering independent schooling, covering day, boarding, and international schools.

Beyond comprehensive directories, John Catt Educational also produces specific yearbooks and guides for preparatory schools and international baccalaureate institutions. They aim to assist parents and students in navigating the complex landscape of independent education through detailed and up-to-date information.

What it's like

Children receive a warm greeting from staff who know them well and settle in happily. While the curriculum is designed to build knowledge and skills, staff inconsistently support children at different developmental stages, leading to variable quality of teaching and interactions. Leaders have introduced new procedures for mealtimes, but these are not yet embedded, causing disorganisation during transitions.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff promptly identify children who require additional support, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They use progress checks effectively to highlight gaps in children's development and seek parental consent to involve relevant health professionals, such as speech and language therapists, for timely intervention.

Outdoor space

Children have ample opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, outdoors, children move with ease as they run, jump and throw balls. They gain strength, coordination and confidence as they challenge themselves during planned games and activities.

Our daughter loves the nursery and all of the wonderful folks who work there! They are always coming up with new and creative activities and the meals are diverse, healthy and tasty. Our daughter yells at us every morning if we don’t get her there fast enough! Couldn’t recommend more.
