How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those known to social care build particularly strong bonds with their key person and consistently seek them out for emotional support and companionship. Practitioners consider children's age, stage and individual needs when supporting behaviour and make appropriate adjustments, including for children with SEND. Children with SEND benefit from skilled emotional support that helps them recognise and manage their feelings. Leaders ensure staff understand how to support each child step by step and implement strategies consistently. Professional development is strongest in statutory areas and in supporting children with SEND, with extensive training that deepens staff understanding. Staff implement targeted plans from professionals with integrity and precision, ensuring children make rapid progress from their individual starting points.

Outdoor space

Leaders have enhanced the outdoor area to support physical development and to extend sensory and imaginative play. They have also introduced the 'daily mile' so children learn about healthy bodies through regular exercise, and they learn language such as 'hydration' and 'heart rates'. Children show resilience when taking manageable risks in the garden.

EAL / language support

When children are learning English as an additional language, they take part in focused sessions that help them learn key vocabulary and become confident communicators. Staff can translate some languages, and where this is not possible, translation software is used to ensure everyone understands.

My daughter has spent the last two years at happy jays, recently graduating ready for big school. I switched her here from another local provider that wasn't great. She has absolutely loved her time at happy jays. I noticed a change in her as soon as she was moved to happy jays. Happier and excited to leave me each morning. They have gone above and beyond in helping with her addition Sen needs and I can't thank the staff and establishment enough. Thankyou so much to you all x
