Headingley Preschool, rated Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2023, is dedicated to providing an inclusive and affordable early childhood education, operating as a charity. 5 years) old.
The preschool prides itself on its tailored approach to education, recognising that each child is an individual with a unique learning style. Experienced and qualified practitioners adapt the curriculum to suit personal needs, ensuring excellent progress.
Headingley Preschool draws inspiration from the Reggio Emilia Approach, which celebrates children as capable, resilient, and curious learners. This philosophy encourages children to explore their world with inherent motivation and collaborate with supportive adults to develop their skills and understanding.
The preschool also provides a learning journey every term, sharing observations and progress with parents via the Tapestry platform, and encourages parents to contribute to this journey by sharing their child's home experiences. Strong links with Shire Oak Primary School, particularly with the reception class, offer a familiar environment for children transitioning to school, although attendance at the preschool does not guarantee a school place.
The preschool also provides snacks and drinks, and requires parents to provide packed lunches for children staying for the full day.
Our ethos
At Headingley Preschool we understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ education and we pride ourselves in empowering all our children to be individuals. Our experienced and qualified practitioners are able to tailor the children’s programme of education to their personal learning style. This method of teaching ensures that the children make excellent progress during their time with us. We are proud to offer an education that celebrates children’s diversity and individualism. Headingley Preschool draws from the Reggio Emilia Approach to learning, which is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education, which values the child as a strong, capable and resilient learner; rich with wonder, motivation and knowledge. The approach understands that every child brings with them a deep curiosity and potential. It is this innate curiosity that drives the children’s interests and gives them the ability to understand their world and their place within it. We support children to extend and inspire their own learning experiences by working collaboratively with caring and supportive adults who understand how to develop their skills and understanding.

Inclusion & environment
All children in the nursery, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make superb progress. Staff are highly attuned to children's needs and quickly implement interventions, such as using national programmes and signing, to support individual learning needs. Additional funding is used successfully to provide children with the best opportunities.
Children are eager to discover the richly stimulating environments inside and outside. For example, outside, staff support children to jump down safely off the wooden sculpture. Children practise jumping from sitting before standing up, repeating this numerous times, which consolidates their learning.
I just read the last review and wanted to put things straight. The preschool building was completely refurbished over the summer so all of the children's work and learning resources were taken down so as not to get damaged. My second child is now there and I have had only very positive experiences here. The staff are outstanding, the children are all very happy. It is a lovely, friendly environment with a really high staff to child ratio which is one of the reasons I chose it. The outside play area great. They also have a good Ofsted report.
Read on GoogleFantastic learning environment. Creative, energetic, and supportive to children and parents! Great outside areas beautifully equipped classrooms enabling children to learn. All three of my children still talk about their time at Pre-School.
