Heddington & Cherhill Preschool offers nurturing early years education across two distinct rural locations near Calne. Heddington Preschool, nestled within its village, boasts a dedicated forest school garden complete with a fish pond, vegetable patches, and a wildlife area, fostering a deep connection with nature.
Cherhill Preschool, situated at the base of the downs, provides a unique experience within its own charming setting. Both preschools are closely affiliated with their respective primary schools, ensuring a smooth transition for children moving on to formal education.
They pride themselves on offering a world of learning opportunities, encouraging children to explore their surroundings, engage in outdoor activities like splashing in puddles and growing vegetables, and extending their play based on their individual interests. The curriculum includes weekly physical education and forest-based learning sessions, alongside the imaginative world of Hartbeeps.
Parents have the option of term-time only care or all-year-round provision, with holiday clubs hosted at the Heddington site. The preschools welcome government funding and Tax-Free Childcare, alongside various employer voucher schemes, making quality early education accessible to a wider community.
Our ethos
Children are offered a world of learning opportunities such as splashing in puddles, growing flowers and vegetables and exploring the local environment come rain or shine. We like to give the child free choice in their learning, extending their play by what interests them and encouraging them to be themselves authentically.

Inclusion & environment
Staff provide exceptionally good support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They work closely with parents and other professionals involved in children's care and attend training to help them meet specific needs. For example, they learn basic signing to help support children who have difficulty communicating.
Many children relish being able to play outside for much of the day in the well-resourced outdoor play areas. Children learn a great deal about the natural world, digging borders to sow plants and hunting for bugs. The focus on outdoor learning means children are highly active, which promotes good health, and they progress to climbing trees and jumping off large tyres.
A great preschool which we used for the holiday club. My son loved going here, the staff are great and communicate very well with us parents. We would highly recommend This preschool.
