About this day nursery

Highfield Day Nursery, nestled in Braughing, Hertfordshire, is a small yet dedicated establishment focused on providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. The nursery prides itself on fostering independence, confidence, and school readiness through thoughtfully designed daily activities.

A core philosophy at Highfield is the emphasis on personal, social, and emotional development, achieved by cultivating strong relationships with children and parents through positive reinforcement. Communication and language skills are honed daily through various engaging activities like story time, group sessions, games, and mealtimes, including exposure to both English and French.

The curriculum also prioritises physical development, offering a safe and stimulating space for children to enhance their motor skills and stay active with fun activities. Literacy is promoted through daily story times, access to a diverse range of books, and a child-friendly scheme for teaching letters and sounds.

Mathematical concepts are introduced through opportunities to count, understand numbers, solve simple arithmetic problems, and explore shapes and measures. The nursery also encourages expressive arts and design through dance, art, music, and imaginative play, allowing children to freely express themselves and explore their senses.

Furthermore, "Understanding the World" is developed through hands-on experiences, problem-solving, and decision-making, preparing children for future academic life. The nursery caters to both babies and toddlers, providing individualised care that respects their routines, offering a range of engaging activities like art, crafts, puzzles, sand and water play, singing, and reading.

They also provide essential baby items like food, nappies, and wipes, asking parents only to bring their child and pre-prepared formula or breast milk. A key worker system is in place to help children settle quickly and build secure bonds with a familiar adult.
