Highley Minors Childcare Centre, established in 2004, provides a nurturing environment for children aged 0–10 years. 45am until 6pm, all year round, the nursery, rated Good by Ofsted on 12th March 2024, focuses on supporting children's holistic development.

The curriculum is designed to be engaging, with staff encouraging children's natural curiosity by providing opportunities to explore their interests, such as building models or using technology to answer questions. Mathematics is seamlessly woven into daily activities, helping children understand concepts like size and shape.

The nursery excels in its support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Sensitive staff use communication aids, sign language, and one-to-one time to help children express their needs and make choices.

For instance, staff use sign language to communicate during mealtimes, and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator actively supports children with SEND. Children are also encouraged to develop independence and self-care skills, such as tidying up and scraping their own bowls after meals.

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities greatly benefit from sensitive staff who support them to make choices. For instance, staff sign 'spoon' at mealtimes to ensure that they understand what cutlery children want. They use communication aids and one-to-one time to encourage children to communicate their feelings and needs. Staff use sign language, pictures and real objects to reinforce children's vocabulary growth. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Outdoor space

Outdoors, toddlers ride bicycles with good control as they play a game of 'stop and go'.
