About this day nursery

Hornby Day Nursery, a family-operated establishment situated in the picturesque Lune Valley, first opened its doors in January 2004. Housed in a beautifully refurbished building that served as the village primary school until the early 1960s, the day nursery offers a stimulating environment for children.

It is registered with Ofsted to care for up to 60 children, including dedicated spaces for babies and toddlers. The nursery is thoughtfully laid out over two floors, with the ground floor dedicated to pre-schoolers and a separate area for a holiday club.

The first floor provides distinct sections for babies and toddlers while maintaining an open-plan design that encourages interaction and smooth transitions between age groups. An all-weather playground at the rear of the property ensures that children of all ages can enjoy outdoor activities.

The nursery prides itself on its committed and qualified staff who strive to provide exceptional care.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Leaders work tirelessly to access support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Additional funding is used to allow more focused attention from staff. The manager and the special educational needs coordinator support staff well so that children with SEND have a skilled team around them, and with additional input from external agencies, this helps children with SEND to make the best possible progress from their individual starting points.

Outdoor space

Staff support children's physical development well. Babies have plenty of space and support to practise their new physical skills. Older children learn to manage risk and develop core strength as they negotiate the steep slope of the field outside. Daily access to outdoor play and learning helps enhance children's overall well-being. Children happily spend time independently looking at books, and they enjoy the outdoor library area.
