Hummingbirds Nursery operates 51 weeks a year, Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm, providing a comprehensive early years programme. The nursery focuses on enriching children's experiences through specialist teachers in Drama, Music, Sport, and Dance, offering a complete curriculum that includes literacy and maths for pre-school children.
Their all-inclusive daily rate covers these specialised sessions, along with healthy snacks and homemade meals. The nursery supports various government funding schemes for 2 and 3-year-olds and partners with several voucher providers, encouraging parents to explore their eligibility for tax-free childcare.
Located in Bramdean, Hummingbirds Nursery emphasises a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive and develop holistically.
What it's like
Children arrive happy and quickly become engaged in their play right from the start. For example, during self-registration, older children find and write their name, and young children are eager to participate making marks and identifying letters from their name, building on their literacy skills. Staff have high expectations and provide a rich range of age-appropriate experiences, helping children understand the community beyond their own and skilfully teaching them about diversity.

Inclusion & environment
The staff work closely with professionals and parents to promptly support children's specific needs. They use additional funding effectively to help close any gaps in children's learning.
Children of all ages have plenty of opportunities to develop their physical skills. They climb, balance and explore outside, building on their knowledge of nature by growing, picking and eating their own fruit and vegetables. Children's inquisitive nature is encouraged extremely well both inside and outside, with babies and young children scooping sand and developing muscles, and older children learning to take risks safely during activities.
During some play activities, opportunities are missed to support children who speak English as an additional language.
My daughter attended this nursery since she was a year old. At 4 years old she was diagnosed with autism, and required support. There was a lack of patience, understanding and empathy shown towards my child and myself. My child is very sensitive to noise and gets very overwhelmed when routine is changed. I would get called to pick her up after 3 hours of her being at nursery! I was also questioned on why my child has ear defenders and what are they used for! Very rude and disrespectful staff for example I was told that my child isn’t normal for her age. When my child got diagnosed and I told the nursery staff. I was informed that they could not get the funding from SENCO without even them trying to get that support in place from the beginning. I was later told after years of my daughter attending the nursery that they could not support her and were told to find somewhere else. There was a lack of empathy from the staff and I felt that we were discriminated against. I’ am extremely disappointed with the lack of support and understanding shown towards my SEND child.
Read on Google5 weeks after starting we got given notice that our place was being terminated. We were told this in an email sent at 10:30pm, no prior warning. Terrible communication, poorly and unprofessionally managed. Do not recommend!
Read on GoogleTerrible organisation, told me I had a place for my child, completed the paperwork and paid a deposit and then months later staff informed me via text they "miscounted' and I no longer had a space. I then had to scramble to find a new nursery as many were full so close to the date I was returning to work. I know I am not the only parent they have done this to. Avoid!
