Kids Planet Bluebell Lodge is a highly-regarded nursery in South Shore, Blackpool, established in 1990. It operates from two detached single-story buildings set within secure grounds in a residential area, offering both extensive outdoor spaces and well-equipped indoor rooms designed to maximise children's engagement in play and learning.

The day nursery prides itself on a dedicated and passionate team. A distinctive feature of Kids Planet Bluebell Lodge is its adoption of 'Udeskole,' a Scandinavian-inspired outdoor learning approach.

This educational philosophy emphasises nature-based experiences, encouraging children to spend significant time outdoors to study local wildlife and plants. By directly interacting with their natural environment, children are supported in developing their sense of self.

The day nursery has received a Top 20 Nursery Award in the North West England region for 2026, based on positive parent reviews, reflecting its commitment to high-quality care and support. The manager, Nicole Trafford, brings a wealth of experience, having progressed through various roles at Bluebell Lodge since 2014, and holds a BA Hons in Family Support and Wellbeing, as well as a Level 3 in Early Years.

Her personal connection to the nursery is evident, as her daughter also attends. The facility is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 18:00, for 52 weeks a year, catering to the needs of working families.

Our ethos

At Kids Planet, we have put together our very own Forest School inspired outdoor learning approach called ‘Udeskole’ that many of our nurseries are training towards and Kids Planet Hoylake has already completed! Udeskole is a Scandinavian concept that translates to “outdoor school” and is an educational approach to outdoor learning. Udeskole focuses on nature-based learning experiences and encourages children to spend more time outdoors studying local wildlife and plants, directly engaging with nature and their environment and helping them to develop their sense of self.

What it's like

Children thrive in the stimulating setting where leaders strive to continually raise the standard of teaching and care. They settle quickly and develop a sense of belonging and self-confidence. Children demonstrate excellent progress across the broad and exciting curriculum, due to the high standard of teaching throughout the setting.
