Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities receive support to enable them to achieve the next steps in their learning. Early identification is done by the key person through supervision or brought to the attention of designated leaders. Staff complete special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) plans and carry out 12-week cycles of support, showing knowledge of the graduated response. The staff team are supported centrally by the SEND team to put interventions and adaptations in place while waiting for referrals to come through. Leaders also liaise with speech and language and health services to ensure appropriate adaptations are made for children who face barriers to their learning.

Outdoor space

Children can access the outdoors freely, which helps to support some of the learning and development and manage behaviour. Regular access to the outdoors allows children to explore nature and develop an understanding of the world around them. Outdoors, children can run, climb, balance, and jump in muddy puddles, and they go out in all weathers with appropriate clothing.

EAL / language support

Children who struggle to communicate are not always given the targeted support they need to help them to make progress. Staff support children with communication and language delay and use screening systems to help identify gaps and areas of focus, which informs staff practice and is shared with parents. Individual needs are considered and planned for.

Absolutely love this nursery and Pre School. My little girl started 2.5 years ago and she has loved every experience here. From forest school, to French, sports, ballet dancing and the special Christmas show. She is certainly ready for school, writing her own name on the board as she comes in! I can’t thank the staff at Mere House enough, they have so much patience and time for every child and parent! You will find it very hard to find a better place to leave your child...
