About this day nursery

Brooklands Childcare Ltd, established in 2004, provides a homely and nurturing environment for children aged 0-4 years. Open all year round, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, excluding a week at Christmas and bank holidays, this Ashton-in-Makerfield nursery received a 'Good' rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 20 June 2023.

Children are happy and curious, forming secure relationships with their key person from the start. Staff skillfully use children's interests to inspire play, offering a wide range of experiences, including a 'tinker table' and a 'cosy room', which spark imagination and broaden understanding of traditions and cultures.

The curriculum is thoughtfully planned to build skills progressively, from supporting babies' core strength to encouraging pre-schoolers' fine motor development for early writing. Leaders ensure staff are supported with training for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), covering areas such as safe sleeping and speech and language assessment.

They collaborate closely with health visitors and local school teachers to ensure comprehensive support and smooth transitions to primary education. The nursery boasts an ever-evolving outdoor area where children can explore, negotiate equipment, build a wormery, cook soup over a fire, and develop physical strength and risk management skills.

Mathematics is integrated into daily activities, with children pouring and comparing water, and using measuring equipment, to foster their understanding of mathematical concepts.
