What it's like to attend

Staff use children's starting points to plan a personalised and exciting curriculum. Staff assessments ensure they set appropriate targets for children to meet individual milestones and prepare them for their next stages in learning, including starting school. Children are happy and staff support their emotional development using books and 'feeling monsters', also providing sensory rooms and quiet spaces for comfort.

Inspector highlights

  • Children are happy and staff support emotional development using books and 'feeling monsters'.
  • Children enjoy opportunities for fresh air and exercise in their garden area, climbing steps, sliding, balancing, and joining in ring games.
  • Careful consideration is given to developing children's small-muscle skills through activities like sandcastles, digging in the mud kitchen, junk modelling, and craft stations.
  • Children freely navigate all areas of learning, engaging imaginatively in activities like washing dishes in the kitchen area and caring for 'babies'.
  • Leaders fully understand how to move forward, showing a passion for continuous improvement by utilising local authority support and external agencies, and providing staff with training and qualifications.

Areas to develop

  • 1consider the organisation of activities and resources for children, so that staff can support children more effectively and maximise potential learning opportunities
  • 2support some staff further in how to engage and extend children's learning in their chosen play, to ensure children get the most from the planned activities and stay focused on activities for longer
  • 3support some staff further to model their expectations for children's behaviour consistently, so that children fully understand safe and suitable ways to behave.
