Little Wellies Day Nursery, situated on a family-run farm near Oundle, offers a unique educational experience with a strong emphasis on outdoor learning. The nursery provides immediate access to woodlands for Forest School activities, a large play area with custom-built equipment, and a petting farm, allowing children to engage with a variety of animals.

The facility embraces the entire farm site, including tractors, ponds, meadows, and livestock, while meticulously maintaining a safe environment. The nursery, founded by Tilly and Michael, two experienced educators, stemmed from their desire to share the benefits of raising children in a farm setting.

Their passion for education and commitment to consistent care and open communication with parents are central to their vision. Clare, the nursery manager, brings sixteen years of teaching experience and a deep love for early years education, focusing on nurturing and empowering children to become confident learners.

The nursery fosters a belief in each child's unique learning journey, designing an environment that sparks curiosity and celebrates individual strengths and interests. The ethos revolves around providing love, nurture, and care, encouraging children to be dreamers, explorers, and pioneers within a supportive and challenging outdoor space.

At Little Wellies our ethos is a simple but passionate one; to love, nurture and care for the children, as if they were our own. We celebrate and explore the uniqueness of each and every child; finding exciting ways to help them grow and ignite a self-belief that will last a lifetime. Our mission is to see each child’s learning journey, in a way that is as special as they are. We celebrate their own starting points, strengths and interests. We plan our environment with a purpose, to have an impact, to develop curious minds. We believe that everyone in our setting should feel loved, valued and unstoppable in their pursuit to be all that they can be. By putting on our little wellies each day and getting out into the great unknown, we can become dreamers, explorers and pioneers. When we feel afraid or unsure, someone is right there to tell us: “it’s ok”, “have a go”, “I believe in you”.  We will build children who dare to wonder “ what if I can?”. We are passionate in our quest to involve our families every step of the way.  We know that in working together to nurture, excite, enable, value, listen to and inspire all our little learners, they will leave us with all that they need, to be everything they are.

What it's like

Children are warmly welcomed by staff at this inspirational nursery, which is located on a working farm where children spend considerable time learning outdoors. The nursery works to a high staff:child ratio, allowing staff to spend lots of time directly with children in small groups or individually, resulting in children developing strong and positive attachments to staff. Children are confident to take part in conversations and activities.
