About this day nursery

The Meadows Family Nursery Schools prioritise children's happiness and well-being, providing calm and inviting environments with excellent playrooms and gardens. Established in 1988 by Valerie and Ron Cossey, the nurseries have grown from a single location to six schools caring for over 500 children weekly.

Valerie's background as a childcare development officer fuelled her passion for child development, leading to the creation of The Meadows' unique approach to childcare and education. Her son, Glynn, joined the team in 2008, continuing to evolve the learning methodologies while upholding the core values of care and learning in early years.

The nurseries offer a diverse range of activities utilising natural resources and everyday household items, encouraging exploration and engagement. Prospective families are invited to request a viewing to experience the nurturing atmosphere firsthand.

The Meadows Nurseries have branches in Eastbourne, Hailsham, Hastings, Northfleet (Ebbsfleet), and Morden, Rosehill.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Staff provide a stimulating and interesting learning environment, especially outdoors, where children enjoy following their own interests, such as making potions at the mud kitchen or pretending to be pirates. These opportunities help children develop into inquisitive and curious learners.

EAL / language support

Staff are very effective at meeting the needs of children who speak English as an additional language. Staff ensure they understand the words that children may use to make their needs known and consistently and clearly model words in English, resulting in children who feel very included and are confident to ask for more language.
