Mini Explorers Nature Nursery, established in 2018 in Droitwich, offers an outstanding early years experience for children aged 1 to 4 years. Operating all year round, the nursery prides itself on its unique outdoor-focused curriculum, largely based on the Forest School ethos and Reggio Emilia approach, where children spend most of their time learning safely in the woods.

This approach fosters a deep connection with nature, allowing children to explore, discover, and confidently engage with their environment. The dedicated staff skilfully use interactions to encourage critical thinking, independence, resilience, and problem-solving.

Physical development is central to the programme, with children participating in high-risk activities under supervision, such as using tools to cut and join wood, climbing trees, and creating dens, all while learning about potential hazards. The nursery provides excellent support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), ensuring they make exceptional progress.

Staff work tirelessly to secure external support when needed, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents consistently report high satisfaction with the care and learning their children receive, appreciating the strong relationships with staff and the effective communication about their child's progress.

According to the Ofsted inspection on June 9, 2021, Mini Explorers Nature Nursery achieved an overall effectiveness rating of Outstanding in all areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

What it's like

Children spend the vast majority of their time in the wood, and learning outdoors, safely and under supervision. They gain a deep knowledge of the natural world and develop their fascination about the changes in seasons and nature. Children enjoy using real binoculars in the bird watching area to identify birds and wildlife they see.
