Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Leaders have plans underway to create a gardening and sensory space in the outdoor area to further enrich children's play, particularly for those who thrive in a natural learning environment. They correctly recognise the need to review the available space to allow children to practise and enhance their physical abilities.

EAL / language support

Staff are proactive in identifying potential barriers to children's learning. They support bilingual children and those learning English as an additional language. Staff learn basic words in children's home languages to help them communicate. This gives children confidence in using words, such as in Greek and Italian, with staff.

My Son has attended KLM since he was 2 and has never had a day where he doesn't want to go to Nursery. Every morning is a warm welcome like coming home to see family. The small group and age mix of the children is classic Montessori, as is the beautiful activities room and kitchen space where my son has enjoyed cooking many a yummy Vegan meal. The learning is all child led and it is wonderful to hear my son come home full of joy, knowing and singing all the days of the week, months of the year and continents. Sevvy and all her staff are so friendly and are regularly talked about by my son at home with much love and affection. We could not recommend this nursery setting more and feel so lucky to have found such a gem in Lewisham.

A wonderful nursery! I can't speak highly enough of Key Largo Montessori. The setting was recommended to me by a good friend and I'd seen how much her son had developed during his time there. The nursery staff are amazing! They all adore my little boy and we are always welcomed with smiles at pick up and drop off, they genuinely enjoy their jobs and they care for the children like they're their own. The nursery manager (Sevvy) always goes above and beyond - so much thought is given to the children's monthly activities (baking, beach trips, animal farms, lavender fields etc) which is communicated via a newsletter. Parents are always well informed on what their child is up to via a 'my child' online portal. We can see photos of their day, what they have eaten, their toilet business and there is also a large focus on their learning and development (through venn diagrams). My son looks forward to going to nursery every morning and he always talks about the staff and his friends. He is excelling in his academic development and this is down to Sevvy and her team. He often tells me: 'Sevvy is my best friend' - as a parent I couldn't ask for anything more in a nursery.

A home from home. Key Largo Montessori is a fantastic space where children are nurtured and cared for like they would be at home. We were recommended Key Largo by a friend of a friend after removing my daughter from another local nursery that my daughter attended for 6 months. In the previous nursery (a more traditional setting) my daughter had become withdrawn and shy and any concerns I raised were not investigated. It could not have been a more different experience at Key Largo. Within a matter of a few weeks my daughter was not only back to her happy, chatty and bubbly self, she was thriving and learning. My daughter loves the staff and we feel that they are warm and caring. They also all know her exceptionally well. Sevvy (the nursery manager) has been a great communicator and is really invested in the childrens' development. Our daughter is due to start school in September and we had been concerned that as a Summer-born child she might have some catching up to do but she could not be more ready. If we have any queries Sevvy has always been readily available to help. Sevvy has also helped us with trying different approaches at home to help our daughter continue to thrive. One thing that has really amazed me about Key Largo are the day trips and real-life experiences that the children get to participate in. Within a week of starting our daughter went down to Whitstable and had a wonderful day. In the last two weeks alone she has been on several trips including to a farm, a museum, on a boat trip and to visit some chickens that the children watched hatch and hand reared for the first few weeks. We love seeing all the daily updates and pictures on the online portal. Our daughter's independence is nurtured at Key Largo and she is given responsibilities (preparing snacks and meals including chopping, peeling, pouring, stirring and baking) which she loves. We have been so impressed with Key Largo's staff, approach and ethos that we have added our second baby to the waiting list (quite rightly it has become very popular so fingers crossed we get in).

We are so happy to have found Key Largo. Sevvy, Sen and the rest of the team are amazing and have created a truly special environment for the kids. They take the time to build up great relationships with both the children and the parents and really place strong emphasis on working in partnership with the parents to ensure we are implementing everything they learn at nursery at home too. Couldn’t be happier!

If I could give them 10 stars, I would. We tried two "normal" nurseries before finding them and we couldn't be happier!! We feel so lucky we found them and got a place! This setting is not your normal nursery. This is an outstanding education establishment for early years. The teachers are trained Montessori teachers. Your child will learn so much, gain independence and confidence. They have a beautiful garden and no outside time limit. They also have a large hall where they play and do their activities when the weather isn't great. Which means your child is never stuck in a room for hours on end, walking around aimlessly. They report on all activities they do with photos and videos and on the progress of your child in all learning areas. They also do excursions to parks in the area and depending on the learning theme of the month and COVID restrictions they also go to farms, lavender fields, etc! It's incredible to see your child experiencing what they learnt in books and in the setting outside in the world. In a very safe way! But the most beautiful thing about Key Largo is that it feels like an extension of your home. Because the teachers are caring, loving and they really take pleasure in getting to know your child and you. The food and hygiene levels are also amazing. Our child has been ill once in an entire year. You cannot say that about many nurseries! In short, we cannot recommend this setting enough. We love it!
