Montacute Pre-School, established in 1992, provides childcare for children aged 2–4 years within the Baptist Church Schoolrooms in Montacute. Open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, Tuesday from 8 am to 12:30 pm, and Thursday from 8 am to midday, the pre-school offers a nurturing environment where children are happy, safe, and secure, arriving eager to explore and socialise.
Staff support children in developing independence, such as changing shoes and preparing for meals, and use mealtimes as valuable learning opportunities.

Children are happy, safe and secure, arriving eager to investigate activities and excited to see friends. Staff support children in becoming independent and use mealtimes as learning opportunities. Staff focus their curriculum on supporting children's communication, language, and personal, social, and emotional development, helping them quickly make progress in social skills.
Inspector highlights
- Staff successfully support children's speaking skills through language modelling, recalling past learning, and introducing new vocabulary.
- Changes to the environment have led to children developing a fascination with books and spontaneously enjoying them alone, with friends, and with staff, particularly engaging boys.
- The SENCo and manager work well with parents, other providers, and outside agencies to ensure all children, including those with special educational needs, make good progress.

How they support every child
SEND provision
The special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) and the manager work well with parents, other providers and outside agencies to ensure all children, including those with special educational needs, make good progress. Staff observe the children, ensuring they know the children well and what they need to achieve next. They plan an ambitious curriculum that meets all needs. Children who need additional support receive one-to-one activities, where staff introduce new language through pictures, signs and words, and through repetition, children soon start saying what they can see.
Outdoor space
Children have daily opportunities to play outside and have wet-weather clothing for inclement weather. The quality of teaching outdoors is not always as effective in challenging children as it is indoors.
