About this day nursery

Nanstallon Pre-School, established in 1990 and operating from a purpose-built, eco-friendly facility within the Nanstallon School grounds since 2010, offers part-day care for children aged two to five. As a registered charity, it operates on a not-for-profit basis.

The pre-school has two distinct playrooms: the Caterpillar Room, typically for two to three-year-olds, and the Butterfly Room for children aged three to four. Both rooms offer stimulating environments where children can learn through play, develop independence, and build relationships with peers and staff.

The curriculum aims to foster essential skills and knowledge through a balance of adult-led and child-led activities, both indoors and outdoors, including a garden and forest school area. Nanstallon Pre-School prides itself on high staff-to-child ratios, with at least four qualified staff members per session, and a fully trained Paediatric First Aider always on duty.

Children are admitted typically three times a year, in September, January, and after Easter, based on age-eligibility and the child's readiness. The pre-school also actively involves parents through a voluntary committee and fundraising efforts to continually enhance facilities and resources.

They received a 'Good' outcome in their latest Ofsted inspection in January 2023.

How they support every child

SEND provision

The manager and staff monitor all children's development closely and there is strong support for children who need extra help to achieve their full potential. The joint approach to this support in collaboration with parents and other professionals works very effectively. The manager uses additional funding to target the areas of learning where children need it most.

Outdoor space

Children benefit greatly from daily opportunities to develop their physical skills. Outdoors, they gain balance and coordination on large equipment and become increasingly confident as they challenge themselves. They also learn about the natural world, for example as they search for insects and observe the changing of the seasons.
