About this day nursery

Nazareth House Day Nursery in Lancaster, established in 1972, offers a nurturing environment for children from 3 months to 4 years old. The day nursery, which underwent a significant refurbishment and expansion in 2011, is part of the larger Nazareth House community, fostering an inclusive atmosphere for both children and adults.

Dedicated rooms cater to different age groups: the Bluebells Room for infants aged 3 to 24 months with a 3:1 child-to-staff ratio, the Poppy Room for 2 to 3-year-olds with a 4:1 ratio, and the spacious Sunflower Room for children aged 3 and above with an 8:1 ratio. Each room provides tailored play areas and resources to support developmental stages, with a focus on both structured activities and free-flow exploration.

The nursery boasts excellent outdoor facilities, including a shared soft surface play area, a field with a rope bridge, a sandpit, musical features, and a garden for growing fruits and vegetables. They are committed to equal opportunities, welcoming children with English as an additional language and celebrating diverse cultures.

The nursery is also wheelchair accessible and has a dedicated SENCO to support children with special educational needs. They follow the EYFS framework, prioritise child wellbeing through a Key Worker system, and incorporate Forest School concepts in their 'Woodland Nursery' area to connect children with nature.

Our ethos

At our nursery, we prioritise treating each person – adult or child – with respect, equal rights, and individual recognition. We warmly welcome children who speak English as an additional language, providing tailored support to help them thrive. We celebrate diverse cultures and global festivals to promote an enriched understanding of our multicultural society. We follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework to ensure every child learns and develops in accordance with their individual needs and pace. We demonstrate a steadfast commitment to prioritising every child’s wellbeing by operating a Key Worker system and encouraging parents and carers to participate actively in their child’s development. Our ‘Woodland Nursery’ area applies age-appropriate Forest School concepts to help children develop an understanding of the natural world.

My little one absolutely loves it at the nursery, he’s genuinely excited to go in in the morning. The staff are kind and friendly and really seem to care for all the kids there.
