New Moon Nursery in Castleford, West Yorkshire, registered in 2010 as a childcare-on-non-domestic-premises setting, provides full day care for children aged 0 to 4 years. The nursery was last inspected by Ofsted on April 14, 2023, and received a "Good" rating across all areas including overall effectiveness, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

The setting, which operates Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm all year round, excluding bank holidays, has a total of 30 places and currently has 101 children on roll. The experienced staff team includes 20 childcare professionals, with 14 holding Level 3 qualifications, two at Level 5, and two at Level 6, ensuring a high quality of care and education.

The nursery places a strong emphasis on strong relationships between staff and children, fostering a warm, welcoming, and secure environment where children are very settled and happy. They also have excellent partnerships with parents, who are fully included in their child's development and describe the staff as "above and beyond".

The nursery actively engages with the local community, including visits to local care homes and the fire station, and even has a link with a nursery in South Africa, demonstrating a commitment to wider community involvement and diverse experiences for the children.

Leaders take swift action to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, making referrals for extra support and professional involvement. They have an inclusive approach for all children in the nursery.

Outdoor space

Children have lots of opportunities to take risks in their play, both indoors and outdoors, such as balancing on beams. They also enjoy football and forest-school sessions.

Both my children attend New Moon Nursery & I couldn’t recommend it highly enough! The nursery has such a family feel, a friendly atmosphere and the staff are always approachable and professional. My children love nursery days, and are so happy and excited to share their stories of their days activities when I pick them up. They have both learnt and developed so much during their time here and I’m grateful for the effort all the staff put into making their nursey journey so loving, stimulating and worthwhile. I have always felt reassured and confident that my children are safe and happy.

My daughter loves going to nursery! She's always happy and excited to see the team. The staff are very helpful, kind and caring to all of the children, and they are always striving to creat new environments and experiences for the children. We would highly recommend this nursery to anyone looking for a nurturing and educational environment for their child.

I couldn’t think of a better place to send my little boy, he settled here so quickly to the point where he didn’t want to come home. The inside of the nursery and each room is beautiful, I was recommended this nursery by a parent who child attended this nursery but I’d already made my own mind up that I was sending him here when we had our look around. The staff are really friendly & approachable. My little boy has such a good bond with his key worker and the other staff. I would definitely recommend this nursery to anyone who is looking for somewhere to send their child

Our little guy loves New Moon. The staff are all very friendly and the nursery is well equipped with fresh home cooked meals and plenty of age appropriate toys and activities. When we pick him up, he has a good natter in the car... We have no idea what he's saying, but it does feel like he's telling us all about his day. Strongly recommend.

New Moon Nursery is the best nursery around! The staff are simply amazing. They are attentive to the child’s needs, friendly, professional and caring. Our little boy loves going here and his development has come on in leaps and bounds since he started. Thank you for everything you all do! x
