How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) make good progress from their starting points. Staff are knowledgeable and recognise when a child needs extra support. They complete timely referrals to outside agencies to help children get the appropriate support and work alongside a local special needs school to improve staff training in SEND. The manager has forged good links with local schools and enhanced transition procedures are in place for those children who need it.

Outdoor space

Children delight as they play in the exciting outdoor area. They show their determination as they develop their physical skills on climbing frames and ride-on toys. They recall previous learning, for example, by pretending to be palaeontologists as they excavate toy dinosaurs in the mud kitchen. Trustees are very active in the nursery, volunteering their time to help with the upkeep of the outdoor area.

EAL / language support

Staff offer a good level of support to children and families who speak English as an additional language (EAL). They are proactive in finding ways to communicate with parents, for example, through the use of translation apps. They display key words for children in both their home language and in English. However, staff are not always confident in supporting children to use and be understood in their home language, which would help them feel even more included.

Brilliant preschool, my non verbal daughter who is diagnosed with asd absolutely loved her time here. The staff were great with her and they have continued to help all they can with getting her into a suitable setting she can thrive in. Highly recommend Newton abbot preschool

The staff make this preschool an exciting place to learn and play. Children always seem so happy at the preschool. The staff tend to all Children with love respect and kindness, and it is returned in abundance.

A fantastic preschool, both my children are so happy and settled there, the staff care so much and the provision is brilliant. They have a lovely outdoor space that the kids love to bring home veg from and every night they ask if its preschool tomorrow! The staff are so friendly and helpful and approachable, I could not recommend it enough.
