About this day nursery

Penguin Pre-School, established in 1993, provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 5 years old. The pre-school, a registered charity (Charity No. 1039260), prides itself on fostering social skills and laying strong foundations for future education.

It operates from Newtown Methodist Church, having moved from previous locations at St Pauls Church and Newtown Community Centre. With a dedicated team of 13 experienced Early Years Professionals, Penguin Pre-School is committed to continuous staff training to incorporate the latest knowledge in early years care and education.

The pre-school’s philosophy centres on a child-centric approach, encouraging confidence, independence, and inquisitiveness. They believe in working closely with parents and carers, considering themselves an extension of the child’s family, and prioritising the child’s voice in their development.

The pre-school has been rated "Good" in all areas by OFSTED in its last inspection in 2015 and is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, during term time.

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities get strong support at the pre-school. Staff provide early interventions and tailored help, for example, using talking boards and picture cards.
