About this day nursery

Pinecones Day Nursery, located on the grounds of Totton College, offers a nurturing and creative environment for children aged 3 months to 4 years. The nursery is purpose-built and features an open-plan setting.

There's a cosy baby room for little ones with a 3:1 staff-to-child ratio, and an early years room that brings together 2-4 year olds in a mixed-age environment, fostering learning through older role models. The nursery is guided by The Curiosity Approach, with spaces designed using open-ended, natural resources to encourage imagination and exploration.

A significant part of the day is spent outdoors, where children can engage in activities like climbing, digging, and playing in a mud kitchen. Fresh, home-cooked meals are prepared daily by the nursery cook using quality, seasonal ingredients.

The menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and exceed Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. The dedicated team works closely with families to ensure each child feels safe, settled, and at home.

Pinecones Day Nursery has an OFSTED rating of 'GOOD' (2024) and offers facilities such as a buggy store, onsite parking, a sensory room, reading areas, and SEN support. The nursery is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Our ethos

Guided by The Curiosity Approach, every space is thoughtfully designed with open ended, natural resources that spark imagination and invite little learners to explore at their own pace. A large part of the nursery day is spent outdoors where children climb, dig, build and get wonderfully messy in our mud kitchen.

Staff adapt activities to take account of the age and abilities of the children taking part. This supports all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to make good progress. Staff quickly identify any gaps in children's learning and put targeted support in place. They use additional funding that is tailored to the individual child and their needs. My son has been attending pinecones for two years. The whole team have a lovely approach to looking after the little ones. There is lots of love and care put into the time they spend there each day. Fun toys to play with and a great environment. Good communication on the Famly app and very responsive.

My son was at Pinecones for 2 years before he left this August to start school! Before nursery he had never been away from family, but the girls at Pinecones made him (and me) feel so at ease whilst adjusting to a big change! It is such a professional but also very homely setting, and I got such a lovely vibe from the first time I visited. He has made so many amazing friends over the past couple of years and has built great relationships with the staff. Without Pinecones I don’t feel as if he would be any where near as prepared as he is to embark on his school journey! Our youngest son has also started Pinecones this month and we feel in great hands, and can’t wait to watch him grow and become more confident there too!

Pinecones is a brilliant nursery, I feel confident in the staff and happy to take my little boy there. They do lots of outdoor play and fun activities which is amazing and we receive regular updates on the app. The food looks amazing and the variety is good too. Handovers are always good and informative. I would highly recommend Pinecones.

Pinecones is a wonderful nursery. Our son started in August and loves it. The staff don't only look after your child but they look after us as parents too. Helping us through the emotions and making the transition so easy. They adapt the surroundings and activities to suit our sons needs when he gets too overwhelmed. He also loves his little days out! We would highly recommend Pinecones to any parent!
