Pretty Windows Day Nursery, established in March 1997, operates in the heart of Nottingham, specifically in the former Sneinton fruit and vegetable market. The founders, who are parents and grandparents themselves, recognised a shortage of high-quality early years care and education in the city centre.
This led them to extensively rebuild and equip dilapidated warehouses to create a vibrant and nurturing environment, capable of accommodating up to 75 children. The nursery embraces the motto "A Care-free Day the Pretty Windows Way," striving to provide a safe, secure, and happy setting where children can thrive in their play and learning.
Pretty Windows is committed to offering high-quality, affordable, and accessible childcare and education, reflecting this core philosophy in all its operations. The facility is open from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday, catering to children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
They also provide comprehensive meals and snacks, freshly prepared on-site, and include essential items like nappies, wipes, and formula in their pricing for applicable age groups. The nursery prioritises individualised care, recognising each child as unique and working in close partnership with parents, who are considered primary caregivers and educators.
They also foster strong relationships with external agencies and the local community to further support the holistic development of each child. The management also places a high value on its staff, ensuring continuous training and professional development to maintain their high standards of childcare and education.
Our ethos
The unshakeable belief that the needs of the children in our care are our top priority. The child is at the centre of everything we do. We recognise each child as a unique individual and support, stimulate and encourage every child to achieve their full potential. We encourage children to form positive relations between themselves and others so that they recognise that they form part of a larger community where everyone cares for everyone else. Parents are the primary carers and educators of their children and we work closely with them to understand the needs of each child to help children to achieve their full potential. We foster and nurture partnerships with all people and agencies who have a part to play in the life of each child in our care. We want our nursery to be at the heart of the local community. We value everyone who works in our nursery and recognise that staff are entitled to be treated with respect and courtesy. All of our staff receive ongoing training and continuing personal development.
What it's like
Children learn good oral hygiene habits, like cleaning their teeth for a set amount of time. They receive gentle reminders to show positive behaviours, such as using 'walking feet' indoors. Children who speak English as an additional language are supported to feel at home, with staff using their home language when greeting them.
Fees are structured around full days, mini days, morning, or afternoon sessions, with weekly rates also available. Prices vary between under-threes and over-threes. Standard fees include all meals and snacks, with nappies, wipes, and formula additionally provided for children under three.

Areas to develop
Inclusion & environment
Staff identify targets and implement these for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. This includes using images of the daily routine to support children's understanding of changes throughout the day. Referrals are made to other professionals to support children's individual needs. Additional funding that some children receive is used effectively to provide them with a calm space to help promote their emotional well-being.
The inspector observed the quality of education during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
I have had a appointment this morning at pretty windows nursery with a lady called Emma office manager i am appalled at her customer / Client service . I was waiting out side in the rain with my toddler for over 25 minutes before any one came out to see us. Just to let me know my appointment was not in the dairy from last time when they called and cancelled they and gave me this slot. No one had called or informed me of any change. I called them on Monday morning and they confirmed I was booked in for today. When i turned up for my meeting i was told they are short staffed and have no nursery members that could take me around there was no communication with staff. They was not able to locate who called me to rearrange the appointment no help in any way what so ever. Please becarful parents sending your child to a nursery that shows no remorse on there mistakes so much cummunication is lacking very unprofessional place, please becarful this is a nursery you want to stay well away from
