RAFA Kidz RAF Leeming, established in December 2021, is a warm and friendly nursery in Northallerton for children aged 0-11 years. 30pm (excluding Christmas to New Year week and bank holidays), the nursery was rated as 'Good' by Ofsted following its inspection on 10th August 2023.
Children are happy and confident to explore the wide range of resources available, engaging in carefully planned activities that staff extend throughout the day. The nursery provides meaningful teaching across the seven areas of learning, with a particularly effective curriculum for communication and language.
Staff build on children's existing sounds and words, using hand signs and actions in music and movement sessions, and engage in attentive conversations to foster vocabulary, confidence, and social skills. The setting is committed to supporting all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), by adapting the curriculum to ensure access to high-quality learning opportunities.
While children benefit from daily fresh air and exercise through walks around the base for birdwatching and local soft-play activities, the outdoor provision for large-muscle development in the nursery's garden is an area identified for review by Ofsted to further enhance children's physical development.

Outdoor space
Staff promote children's healthy lifestyles, such as through providing daily fresh air and exercise. For instance, children enjoy walks around the base to go birdwatching and enjoy a local soft-play activity. However, opportunities for children to develop their large-muscle skills in the nursery's garden are sometimes limited, and staff do not routinely use the resources they have to help build on children's physical development.

My kids used to go to RAFA kids. In general it was ok, and we used them for WAC also. One thing we did not agree with and the reason for the drop in stars were the prices during the school holidays. One year we were paying nearly £70 a day for the kids club to find out my kids on some days were walking around camp litter picking. Whilst I agree this can be educational and good for the community, this is absolutely a job for those personnel on jankers, not my kids!
