Rascals Natural Learning, a childcare setting established in 2017 in Grimsby (DN37 8JS), provides care for children aged 0–11 years. The nursery operates year-round from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with closures for one week at Christmas and all public holidays.

While children are happy and eager to attend, forming close bonds with staff and peers, the latest Ofsted inspection on March 16, 2026, highlighted several areas for urgent improvement. The report noted that children spend a significant amount of time learning outside, which promotes their health and well-being.

However, there are concerns regarding the effectiveness of planning activities, supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and the consistency of staff in implementing the curriculum. Despite these challenges, parents have expressed positive feedback about their children thriving at the nursery, gaining new skills and experiences, and valuing the communication with key persons.

We have a learner centred approach that fosters creativity, independence and resilience through challenge, choice, risk taking and positive relationships. How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff do not give children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) the support that they need to engage in the routines of the day and to be involved on a social level with their peers. Those who hold responsibility for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) do not fulfil their roles effectively. Leaders use additional funding appropriately to help transport children to the setting who may not otherwise be able to attend.

Outdoor space

The organisation of the setting sees children predominantly playing outdoors, where they have access to fresh air and the opportunity for physical activity if they choose. Children's health and well-being is promoted well as they spend a great deal of time learning outside. They wear appropriate outdoor clothing, which helps them to comfortably explore and investigate their surroundings and the activities. Staff provide resources outdoors that children use to practise their balance and coordination. For instance, children step from one log stump to another.

EAL / language support

Children who face barriers to their communication development are hindered by staff's uncertainties and inconsistencies in using external experts' suggested teaching strategies, such as simple sign language.
