About this day nursery
The Roberts Day Nursery, situated within the Fratton Community Centre, offers a stimulating and secure environment for up to 41 children from birth to five years old. The nursery operates 51 weeks a year, Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm, providing full-day care.
Committed to fostering a sense of safety, love, and support, the nursery implements a unique child-led curriculum that promotes curiosity, creativity, and independence by tailoring activities to each child's interests. Children can engage in various learning experiences, from reading and research using books or a large touchscreen computer to exploring nature in a secure garden and expressing themselves in art and design areas.
The nursery also provides thoughtfully designed individual play spaces for babies, toddlers, and pre-school children, with a shared garden for pre-schoolers to encourage free-flow play. The team is dedicated to the mental well-being of its pre-schoolers through the My Happy Mind programme and offers the Early Talk Boost speech and language programme for school leavers.
The curriculum covers all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the nursery employs two Level 3 qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) to ensure inclusive care and support for all children.

Fees are structured by age, with separate rates for children under three and those aged three and over. Parents can book half-day sessions, full days, or full weeks, with additional hours billed separately.

How they support every child
SEND provision
All children make progress from their starting points, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders are proactive in seeking help for children where gaps in their learning are identified. Staff work with outside professionals to provide strategies that allow children to access a fully inclusive curriculum, including for those with SEND.
Outdoor space
Staff have developed the outside space into a rich learning environment. Children enjoy climbing and negotiating obstacles as they play with their friends. They build large towers out of construction bricks. Staff ensure that children receive experiences that they may not have had before, such as riding a bike or a scooter and engaging in water play.
EAL / language support
Staff work tirelessly to create a memorable and stimulating learning experience for all children, including those who speak English as an additional language.
