About this day nursery

Scribbles Day Nursery, a family-operated and non-corporate establishment, aims to create a welcoming and familiar atmosphere for children. Established by Lesley Seville in 2011, who brings nearly four decades of expertise to the Early Years sector, the nursery has grown significantly from its humble beginnings in a village hall with just five children.

It now operates as a full-day nursery in a spacious Barley Barn in North Weald. Scribbles is dedicated to fostering young minds within a supportive environment, focusing on emotional intelligence and providing a secure space where children feel comfortable expressing their feelings.

The nursery also runs a smaller, term-time-only Pre-School in Coopersale, Epping, ensuring diverse learning experiences. Scribbles prides itself on encouraging learning through play, cultivating a joyful atmosphere, supporting individual growth, and promoting holistic development, all within a safe and inclusive setting.

Our ethos

At Scribbles, we are deeply committed to nurturing children’s emotional intelligence. We prioritise providing a secure emotional environment that empowers children to connect with and understand their emotions. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of openness throughout the nursery, allowing children to confidently and honestly share their feelings and experiences with trusted individuals. Every child is treated with compassion and kindness, and we strive to understand their behaviour by identifying potential stressors, helping them develop self-regulation skills. We ensure all children feel included and supported. By recognising each child’s unique strengths, we focus on building confidence and fostering strong, trusting relationships between children, their keyperson, and their families.

Our son started at Scribbles Day Nursery when he was 18 months old, and as he now moves up to the next class, we couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful care and support he has received. He struggled a little at first, as he is very attached to me, but the staff handled everything with such patience, kindness, and professionalism. They kept me informed every step of the way, which gave me so much reassurance. The whole team, from the classroom staff to the reception, are always polite, approachable, and quick to respond to both emails and phone calls. Communication has been excellent, and we always feel that our son is in safe and caring hands. We also really value the nursery’s commitment of diversity and inclusion, which creates such a welcoming and positive environment for all children and families. We are so happy with Scribbles Day Nursery and are excited to see our son continue his journey as he moves up to the next class. A huge thank you to everyone for making his first nursery experience such a positive one!

We are deeply grateful to Scribbles for the exceptional care and nurturing environment they have provided our daughter from the moment she started at just 10 months old to now leaving for primary school. Scribbles has been instrumental in her growth and development. The staff’s dedication, warmth, and professionalism have played a significant role in transforming her into the wonderful little girl she is today. The nurturing atmosphere, engaging activities, and personal attention she received throughout have exceeded our expectations. The staff’s genuine passion for early childhood education is evident in every aspect of their work. They have not only provided a safe and stimulating environment but have also fostered a love for learning that we believe will benefit her for years to come. We cannot thank Scribbles enough for their unwavering support and commitment to our child’s well-being and development. As she transitions to primary school, we see the confidence that she has gained from Scribbles for this next exciting chapter. Unlimited thanks to the incredible team at Scribbles and the foundations they have provided to our daughter and readiness for the next chapter in her life. We would highly recommend this nursery to any parent looking for a caring and dedicated nursery.

My baby has been going to scribbles since 6 months old and she loves it, especially the staff. I like how much effort they put into all the different topics they teach the children. The food is delicious my baby enjoys seconds every day. From the lovely cook to the kindhearted manager and everyone in between, the children are treated like their own family. Thank you, Scribbles for all you have done for us.
