About this day nursery

Skylark Day Nursery is run by sisters Tracey Elliott-Hobson and Sarah Emms, both highly experienced teachers with over 25 years in education. Established in a converted 1930s church building in Scarborough, just a 10-minute walk from town, the nursery is registered with OFSTED to care for 44 children aged 6 months to 5 years.

They operate 50 weeks a year, offering both full-time and term-time places. The nursery is divided into three age-specific areas: "Sunbeams" for 6 months to 2 years, featuring a carpeted space, wet area for messy play, a quiet sensory room, and a separate sleep room; "Rainbows" for 2 to 3 years olds, providing flexible space for role-play, water play, creative activities, and story-time, as well as parachute games, music, and small world exploration; and "Little Stars" for 3 to 5 years, which includes construction, creative play, role-play, water activities, a story and listening area, play-dough table, loose parts play, and free-flow access to an outdoor area.

The nursery welcomes children eligible for both 2-year-old and 3/4-year-old funding. Parents are encouraged to arrange a visit to see the facilities and meet the team.

Pricing & funding

Fees are charged at an hourly rate for extra unfunded hours and meals. Fees remain payable during child absence and holidays, with permanent session changes restricted to the start of terms for funded children. Late pickup fees and a refundable deposit also apply.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive good support. The special educational needs coordinator plans and reviews children's personal goals to ensure that they are receiving the correct help.

Outdoor space

Children develop skills in readiness for their move on to school. For instance, when it is time to go outdoors, they help staff to tidy away toys and line up at the door. Children understand how to keep themselves safe, for example, they know to hold on to a special rope as they visit the nursery garden.
