About this day nursery

Small People Ltd in Nottingham offers a unique outdoor nursery experience within an acre of grounds, embracing a Forest School approach. Children spend 100% of their day outside, engaging with nature and learning through play in the Nottinghamshire countryside.

The nursery focuses on stimulating development with a "back to basics" philosophy, incorporating natural, wooden toys, a holistic learning approach, healthy eating, and plenty of fresh air and exercise. The facility includes dedicated areas such as a "Kosi pod" for rest, a "Baby Pod" with its own garden and climbing frame for under-2s, and an "Animal den" where children can interact with chickens and a pig named Pumba.

A large field provides space for physical play, including an obstacle course, and a 4-section structure for art, water play, a cosy area, and sand play. The main garden features a climbing frame with swings, a slide, and a climbing wall, alongside a messy play area for creative and role-playing activities.

The nursery is located on Colston Road in Cropwell Bishop, offering on-site parking and operating Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 19:00.

Outdoor space

Leaders and staff have created a unique learning environment for children. They plan and implement an ambitious curriculum that offers children most of their early education and care outside. Children have developed a love for their outdoor learning and are familiar with the routines. Staff are mindful of additional safety precautions needed to eliminate risks linked to providing children's care outdoors. For example, they remove children's outer layers before they sleep so they do not overheat. Staff regularly check children and make use of covered spaces, such as pods and yurts, to ensure that children remain dry, warm and comfortable in the wet weather conditions.

This preschool is the best for active little kids. My boy has been going since September and absolutely loves it! The staff are fantastic and they get fed fabulous food aswell!! Second to none care and I would 100% recommend to anyone. We are gutted that due to moving house we are having to move our son. The search is on for a comparable preschool! They have definitely set the bar extremely high. Thank you small people for being so fantastic

My son absolutely loved Small People Nursery. I was so nervous at first, but it’s truly like no other. The focus on outdoor play is amazing, and he was always happy at drop-off and collection. I’d 100% recommend, especially if you’re feeling a little unsure.
