Songbirds Hedon is a nurturing nursery that strives to offer a "home-from-home" setting. The nursery values its team, believing that happy staff create a positive learning environment.
Songbirds Hedon focuses intently on the early years of a child's life, providing high-quality care and education tailored to individual needs in a respectful, relaxed atmosphere. The highly skilled practitioners aim to foster curious thinkers and learners who are eager to explore, encouraging strong communication skills by modelling language and expanding vocabulary.
The curriculum is child-centred and integrates various topics and extracurricular activities to ignite awe and wonder, building on children's home experiences through wider community visits. The nursery aims to develop children's resilience, ambition, and integrity, preparing them with the cultural capital needed to become confident individuals.
The child-led approach means that activities are free-flowing and adapted to children's interests, covering all seven areas of learning outlined in Development Matters through inspired activities and celebrations of special days. Community experiences are also central to the nursery's ethos, helping children develop empathy, self-esteem, and valuable life skills such as problem-solving and responsibility.
Our ethos
At Songbirds we pride our settings on strong family ethos, a home-from-home feel. It’s something we believe to be at the heart of Songbirds and vital to our nurseries. We try our best to create a setting in which our team know that they are valued and supported, and not just there to do a ‘job’. A healthy, happy team creates a healthy, happy nursery environment and a positive friendly atmosphere for the children to flourish in. Our ethos is that children’s early years are the most important years of their lives. Here at Songbirds, we strive to provide high quality childcare and education for all children that is appropriate to their individual needs. This is provided for in a positive, respectful, relaxed, and homely environment, by supportive adults sensitive to the individual needs of the child and their family. The learning environment is fundamental in providing the children with a sense of security, belonging and effective learning. Supporting and meeting the needs of both children and their families is paramount at Songbirds and working in partnership with parents to ensure all children’s development and educational needs are consistently met.

The outdoor areas are superb and provide rich opportunities for children to be creative. Staff encourage older children to make model bridges, linked to a story they have recently enjoyed, and children add water to sand to form a strong foundation for their structures and independently select the materials they want to use.
