Southfield School

About this day nursery

Southfield School in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, is a specialist educational provision catering to pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school focuses on supporting children with significant needs, including global learning difficulties, Autism, and Speech and Language difficulties that impact their academic progress and overall development.

Some pupils may also have additional needs such as behavioural or emotional challenges, sensory needs, specific conditions like ADHD or Dyspraxia, or medical requirements. Admissions are managed by Hertfordshire County Council, which makes all decisions and maintains the waiting list.

The school places children into chronological year groups but structures learning based on developmental stage rather than age, ensuring a tailored approach. Parents and carers are encouraged to visit the school during open mornings to meet the leadership team, tour the facilities, and ask questions before any admission decision is made.

Southfield School is committed to a smooth transition for new pupils, with staff visiting children in their current settings and families invited to meet key staff. The school prioritises working in partnership with families to ensure each child has a positive and successful experience.
