St Petroc's School Nursery, located in Bude, has been operating since 2010 and received a 'Good' rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 16th April 2024. This childcare setting, open all year from 8 am to 6 pm each weekday, caters to children aged 1 to 4 years.
Children confidently engage with the resources and activities provided by staff. The day nursery follows a broad and stimulating curriculum designed to build on children's existing knowledge and foster a love of reading from an early age, with children frequently selecting books to be read to them.
Emphasis is placed on developing physical skills, such as coordination and hand strength, through activities like playing with dough for younger children and using tools to chip ice for older ones. Children make good progress across all areas of learning and demonstrate good behaviour, cooperating and problem-solving together.
The manager and staff excel in supporting communication and language development, utilising songs, clear language modelling, and signing. Parents highly commend the day nursery's support for their children's speech and language development.
The nursery ensures effective safeguarding arrangements and maintains strong partnerships with parents, who receive detailed updates on their children's progress. While outdoor learning is encouraged, the inspection noted that transitions, particularly to outdoor play, can involve children waiting for extended periods without immediate staff interaction.

parents speak very highly of the nursery and in particular, the support that staff provide for their children's speech and language.
Inclusion & environment
Not explicitly mentioned in the report.
During transitions, such as when getting the children ready to play outside, children spend too long waiting around and staff do not interact with or engage them during this time. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.
Our daughter has been attending St Petrocs Early Years since she was 8 months old. It is a warm and welcoming setting, the children are always doing amazingly creative activities, playing outside and even going on trips to the nearby beach. We now have a very happy and engaged 2 and a half year old that loves going to nursery! The staff are honestly like family to her, we feel so lucky to have found this setting and can't recommend it highly enough!
Read on GoogleBoth my sons have attended this fantastic nursery and both absolutely loved it. My son is so happy to walk in at the start of the day and he comes out smiling and full of excitement. He had developed in terms of his confidence and language since starting. The staff are kind, nurturing and professional. I would certainly recommend this nursery to other parents.
Read on GoogleWonderful little nursery and holiday club! We moved here during the pandemic and both my boys were nervous about going, the staff helped so much to settle them in and they have loved everyday. Leaving them here when I was working was always easy when I know they are in excellent hands with a caring team. Really responsibly priced and a HUGE plus being they provide meals! I sent them back here during the summer for the holiday club and they have had the best time, and really loved having a chance to keep in contact with their old friends and teachers. Cannot recommend enough!
Read on GoogleMy little one and I moved to the area in the summer of 2022 and St Petrocs we’re the first setting we visited and upon looking around I knew it was the place I wanted my son to go to. Not only are the staff super lovely, the setting itself is airy, bright, colourful and have a fantastic outdoor area which my son loved. When faced with some personal issues, the staff were supportive and understanding. I felt I built a solid relationship with the teachers looking after my boy. I cannot fault their processes regarding children going up to primary school and my son has settled really well into big school and I credit St. Petrocs. We will really miss everyone there.
Read on GoogleHighly recommend this nursery, the 0-2 room is interactive and engaging. The staff have done everything possible to ensure a comfortable and relaxing start to the nursery experience for both me and my daughter.
