Summertime Nursery & Preschool, established in 2007, is a small, family-focused nursery located in Dorchester, catering to children from birth up to school age. The nursery is situated within the Thomas Hardye School grounds, near the 1610 leisure centre.
As a 35-place nursery, it fosters a warm and nurturing environment, ensuring that each child's individual needs are met. The setting comprises a baby room for children aged 0-2 years, accommodating a maximum of nine babies, and a preschool room for up to 26 children aged 2-5 years.
This smaller size allows for a personalised approach, where staff know each child by name and personality, aiming to become an extended part of each family's support network. Summertime Nursery is a committee-run registered charity, encouraging parent involvement in its daily operations.
It is committed to inclusivity, offering support for children with special educational needs and disabilities through tailored activities and collaboration with external agencies. The nursery also emphasises gentle preparation for school, focusing on developing independence and essential life skills while valuing clear communication with parents.
They provide complimentary settling-in sessions to ease children's transition into the nursery environment.
Our ethos
As a parent or carer we understand that choosing the right care for your child is a massive decision. We are a small nursery but able to offer a wide range of experiences from birth to school age most importantly we want to be part of your extended family. We know every child's name in the setting and their personalities, we want to know and care about your child, their lives and their families. It is our aim to provide a home from home that will gently prepare your child for school. We understand that good communication is important and value what each child says - we 'listen' and recognise children thrive best when they feel comfortable, safe, supported and valued.

parents speak very highly of staff
staff are fantastic, very approachable and keep them well informed about their children's progress
Inclusion & environment
Staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities very well. They adapt activities and the play areas to enable all children to make achievements at their level of ability.
Children enjoy playing outdoors and benefit from regular exercise. They pedal their ride-on toys around a marked circuit and learn to control their direction. They like digging in the mud to find 'buried treasure'.
