Abacus Nursery (SW) LTD is a private establishment dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enriching environment for young children in Taunton. The nursery is committed to satisfying the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical needs of each child.
Abacus boasts a team of up to 15 qualified and experienced staff members who share a genuine passion for early years education. The nursery prides itself on its "Outstanding" rating from Ofsted, achieved in November 2022 across all areas, reflecting their dedication to high-quality care.
Abacus operates with a strong inclusion and equality policy, ensuring all children have opportunities to flourish. The facility is equipped with dedicated spaces for different age groups, including a self-contained baby and toddler room with a spacious playroom, a separate sleep room, and a dining area that doubles as a messy play zone.
For older children, a large toddler and pre-school area directly accesses a fabulous garden with covered areas for all-weather outdoor play, featuring a climbing frame, mountain slide, sandpit, and mud kitchen. The nursery also incorporates unique approaches like "Hygge" in "The Snug" room, a calm space with natural resources for quiet exploration, and embraces "The Curiosity Approach" to foster children's natural inquisitiveness, promoting a "home from home" atmosphere where every child can reach their full potential.
They also prioritise parent partnerships, providing regular updates and information on children's progress and development.
Our ethos
We aim to provide a caring, safe and stimulating environment where children can play and learn. Where each child can be embraced and encouraged to develop their own unique self. We offer a variety of resources but understand that children learn best through play and interaction, so no opportunity is wasted! Our mission is to provide a ‘home from home’ environment where children’s needs come first. Staff work in partnership with parents/carers and outside agencies (when required) to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential, in fun and safe surroundings. We believe that safeguarding each child whilst at nursery is at the centre of our care. TESTING

Inspector highlights
Inclusion & environment
There is excellent support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The knowledgeable special educational needs coordinator works closely with parents and other professionals to develop precise support plans to help reduce any gaps in learning.
Staff understand the benefit of children being physically active; older children participate in focused sport activities, move confidently and practise balance. Staff use routines such as dressing for outdoor play to promote language and children respond to outdoor conditions (for example, walking to marked spots when the surface is slippery).
Staff support children who speak English as an additional language highly successfully, using routines, constant commentary and rhymes to build language. TEST
