Sunnybrow Day Care, situated in Kendal, is a long-established nursery having opened in 1989. Since 2003, it has been under the ownership of Peter and Val Graveson, who, along with Adam, are actively involved in the day-to-day operations.
In 2006, the nursery relocated to a refurbished Victorian building in the Greenside conservation area, providing a bright and spacious environment with tall ceilings and large windows. The nursery cares for children from birth to five years old, offering various garden areas, including a large sandpit, and an "Octagon" classroom for small group activities.
They are also developing a Forest School play area. Sunnybrow uses the "Famly" online platform to keep parents updated on their child’s learning, accounts, and bookings, and to facilitate direct communication with staff.
The nursery offers both all-year-round and term-time-only care options.

Inclusion & environment
An impressive commitment to inclusion helps to ensure that all children, particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), have full access to their early education entitlement. Staff provide highly effective support for children with SEND, identifying gaps in development at an early stage and implementing targeted strategies swiftly. They work very closely with parents and other professionals, which helps to ensure that children make the best progress possible.
During role play outdoors, children confidently explain what to do if there is a fire and how to contact the emergency services. Staff help toddlers progress from sitting on wheeled toys to peddling them around the garden. By the time children reach pre-school, they can balance on tyres and manage obstacle courses with skill.
The experience was not great from the beginning; the only thing on which they focused was the 100-pound deposit. I spoke with the manager on the phone and asked if I needed to book to see the nursery or if we could go when we dropped off the paperwork. He agreed that we don't need a booking, and it's fine just to pop in. When we got there, the first thing he asked was about the money, and he wasn't happy when I asked him to show us the nursery. And we decided not to take our child there anymore, and now we can't get our deposit back just because we didn't take the place.
Read on GoogleOur little Girl has been going to Sunny Brow Day Nursery since she was 18 months old and has just left now at 4 and a half to start school. Our experience has been excellent! She has really come out of her shell and developed many social skills that have set her in good stead for starting school. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and you can see that everyone from the owners through to management and the childcare staff have a real passion for what they do. The building is an old building but it is kept very clean & tidy and is wonderfully decorated on each floor with scenes that match the seasons and time of year. You can tell a lot of thought & effort goes into this. Overall we love Sunny Brow!!! Thank you all :-)
