About this day nursery

Sunshine Children's Centre, located in Burgh Le Marsh, Skegness, is an all-year nursery and out-of-school club serving children aged 0-11 years. Registered in 2018, this setting has deep roots in the community, with many staff members having served for years and generations of children attending, fostering a strong sense of continuity for families.

The dedicated team, comprising 26 childcare staff (22 with Level 3+ qualifications, two with a Level 6 Early Years degree, and the manager holding Early Years Teacher Status), prioritises high-quality care and learning. Children are encouraged to be curious about nature, discovering wonders like nests in the nature area and having their interests extended through engaging activities.

The day nursery is highly regarded by parents, who express immense trust and satisfaction with the care provided. The manager and staff show high expectations for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and work closely with inclusion services to provide exceptional support, even going above and beyond to facilitate smooth transitions to school.

The day nursery also thoughtfully uses additional funding to offer benefits like extra days and hot meals, contributing to children's social development and healthy living.

Our ethos

Here at Sunshine we want to develop little people with personality, imagination and a sense of adventure. We know children are naturally inquisitive, and we follow 'The Curiosity Approach' ethos to promote curiosity, awe and wonder in Early years. It creates beautiful and aesthetically pleasing play spaces for children using loose parts and open ended resources. This approach teaches children how to think not what to think. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is the government standards for the learning development and care for children aged 0-5. We recognise the importance of good manners and respect and seek to provide a strong foundation in these to prepare our children for life outside nursery.

What it's like

Children arrive at the nursery happy and smiling, eager to play and are motivated and interested in learning. They demonstrate feelings of safety and security when they wake up as staff beam at them. Children have curious minds, for instance, they discover a nest in the nature area and staff support them to look online to find out which bird made this nest. Staff then extend this curiosity by providing activities to make nests.
