Areas to develop

  • 1Leaders and managers do not have effective enough oversight of key aspects of the nursery. Some policies and procedures are not followed in an effective and timely manner and weaknesses in the organisation of record-keeping mean that some important information was not available for inspection. This is a breach of requirements.
  • 2Leaders have planned a toilet training workshop for parents to attend in the near future. However, to date, some older children do not receive timely support to develop their toileting and personal care skills. This means that they do not make the expected progress for their age and stage of development. Despite this, children have frequent opportunities to serve their own food and pour their own drinks during mealtimes and enjoy making independent choices during play.
  • 3Staff state that they feel well supported at work and receive appropriate help to understand their roles. However, the arrangements for staff supervision, monitoring children's progress across all areas of development and reviewing staff member's personal effectiveness requires strengthening in order to further improve outcomes for all children.
  • 4Children have some opportunities to discuss their heritage and what makes them unique. For instance, they recently created self-portraits and discussed their different hair and eye colours. Despite this, staff do not plan a wide enough variety of experiences to help children to understand about different backgrounds and cultural perspectives.
