The Light Academy, a childcare on non-domestic premises in Leicester (LE4 9EA), registered with Ofsted on June 29, 2023, caters to children aged 2-4 years, with a total of 16 places. While leaders and staff maintain a settling and secure environment and foster positive relationships with children, ensuring individual care needs are met, the provision has been rated Inadequate.
The nursery is committed to improvement, having recently recruited a new manager and successfully addressed most previous action points. However, there are areas requiring urgent attention, specifically concerning the consistent delivery of activities that meet the needs of all children, particularly younger ones and those with SEND.
Physical development is a strong point, with children enjoying outdoor activities at a local park. While children demonstrate confidence and developing independence within familiar routines, the overall learning experiences and teaching quality are variable, leading to some children disengaging from activities.
Our ethos
The Light Academy's curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. They focus on fostering confidence and independence in a nurturing and stimulating environment, catering to individual learning styles and promoting healthy eating habits. They are dedicated to providing a safe, positive, and inclusive atmosphere with strong communication with parents.

Inclusion & environment
Children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve some progress from their starting points, though some do not make the progress they are capable of. Leaders and staff use a graduated approach and seek additional support from outside agencies to reduce barriers, but activities are not always consistently matched to the children's needs.
Children enjoy being outdoors, using the park to explore and develop their larger muscle skills. They demonstrate sound physical development as they run around objects and use their small muscle skills to scoop, cut and manipulate dough, even balancing pretend eggs on a spoon.
My son has been attending TLA for almost a year now, the care and development of my son is brilliant, I always feel 100% confident he will be well looked after. TLA is a second home to him. They do a variety of activities and my child always talks about what they do. All of the staff are so nurturing, supportive and they provide him with so much care, attention and positivity. My son is so happy to come to nursery every day. I would highly recommend TLA (The light Academy) to anyone looking for a nursery.
