The Malthouse Nursery School, established in 1988, is nestled within the expansive Charlton Park Private Estate, offering a unique educational experience in a rural setting. Catering to children aged 2-5 years, the nursery prides itself on maintaining a small, traditional environment with strong values, accommodating up to 24 children per session.
Emphasising outdoor learning, children spend at least half of each day exploring the fields and woodlands, engaging with the working farm and its animals, regardless of the weather. Indoors, a diverse range of activities such as painting, construction, imaginative play, and access to educational technology like iPads and programmable toys are provided.
The nursery fosters a strong partnership with parents, striving to make every day a positive and exciting learning experience for children and their families. It is a private, independent institution, a member of the National Day Nursery Association, supported by the Wiltshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, and registered with OFSTED.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents praise the kind, caring and nurturing staff.
They love that their children get to spend so much time outside and immersed in nature.
Parents feel included in their child's learning and feel comfortable seeking support and guidance from the staff.
Inclusion & environment
Staff collaborate with parents and a range of professionals to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Staff receive specialist training to enable them to understand a range of needs to ensure that children make the best possible progress in their care. For example, staff work with a speech and language therapist to gain strategies and activities to enhance children's confidence in communicating at group times.
Children take long walks within the beautiful grounds of Charlton Manor, enjoying the wildlife and rolling down grassy hills. Staff have created an outdoor classroom in a secluded woodland area for children who 'learn the best outside', where they run, climb trees, explore resources, and engage in imaginative play using large items.
A really charming lovely little nursery that both my children went to as well as both my younger sisters.... Really pretty and safe.
