About this day nursery

Topsham House Day Nursery, established in 2000, provides ‘Good’ rated childcare on non-domestic premises in Leicester for children aged 0–4 years. 45am until 6pm.

Staff at Topsham House Day Nursery build strong relationships with children and families from the outset, offering detailed inductions and creating family photo books to foster a strong sense of belonging. The nursery promotes independence from an early age; even babies learn to drink from cups and use spoons, while older children help set tables and pour drinks.

Children consistently behave well, with staff taking care to involve them in creating ‘golden rules’ to help them understand behavioural expectations. The nursery offers a balanced curriculum, which includes engaging activities such as learning about palaeontologists and exploring the local community through visits to a forest school, church events, and the library.

This helps children develop a broader understanding of the world. Outdoor learning is a key feature, with children enjoying a wide range of physical activities, from leaping and bouncing to riding trikes.

They also learn to assess risks independently in the outdoor environment. For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), staff have high expectations and work closely with other agencies to develop and review targeted learning plans, effectively using additional funding like the early years pupil premium to support progress.

Parents are very satisfied with the care and support their children receive, praising the strong communication through both verbal and online platforms, and feeling well-informed about their child's development.
