About this day nursery

Town Work Play is a nursery located in Faversham, within the secure grounds of The Abbey School. As a full-day care, year-round nursery, it provides an environment where children are encouraged to engage through their own interests, fostering independence and freedom in their play and learning.

It is a sister nursery to Farm Work Play, sharing the common goal of offering liberating experiences that might be less accessible in traditional classroom settings. The nursery champions spontaneous, unstructured, and adventurous play, prioritising ample space for movement and exploration, fresh air, and consistent exposure to the natural world.

Town Work Play aims to cultivate a sense of freedom, independence, and confidence in children, along with a strong connection to nature. They nurture each child's innate curiosity at their individual pace, ensuring a supportive, loved, and protected atmosphere, akin to a home away from home.

Despite its town location, the nursery maintains a rural feel, creating a setting where children can thrive in a free-range environment.

Our ethos

What it's like

Children arrive excitedly at this welcoming setting, with older children quickly settling to hunt for bugs outside. Staff have high expectations and praise positive attitudes to learning, extending children's interests like baking into making play dough with different ingredients. They also expand children's language skills, as seen when children proudly exclaim they have 'zested' lemons and describe them as sour. Children engage in a range of activities that effectively support their learning, with staff successfully addressing learning gaps from COVID-19 and reorganising lunchtimes to develop communication and social skills.

Pricing & funding

Fees are structured by age bands (Under 3s and Over 3s) and session types, which include full days (8am-5pm) and shorter sessions (9am-3pm). All standard day fees include meals. Surcharges apply for early drop-offs and late pick-ups. Specific packages and reduced rates are available for Enhanced-Funded children.
