About this day nursery

Treetops Preschool & Extended Schools Provision CIC, re-registered in 2017 and operating from its current premises in Okehampton since 2008, offers childcare on non-domestic premises for children aged 2–10 years. 45am to 6pm, all year round, it operates as a full day care setting.

The preschool is rated 'Good' by Ofsted, following its inspection on 27 March 2025. Children arrive happily and are warmly greeted by staff, who make an effort to learn individual routines, likes, and dislikes to help them settle quickly and feel secure.

This commitment extends to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), where staff proactively work with professionals to address any identified learning gaps. Children behave well, playing cooperatively, taking turns, and demonstrating good manners.

The curriculum focuses on developing a love of reading through enthusiastic story sessions and encourages independence in preparation for school. Outdoor learning is a significant part of the children's day, with ample opportunities for fresh air and exercise in the outdoor space.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, new equipment, including a stile for climbing, was introduced to further develop children's physical muscles. The setting also acts as a community hub, collaborating with external organisations to support families and managing transitions seamlessly, partly through a toddler group.

Children also learn about their local area through community trips, such as visiting a garden centre.

Treetops is a fabulous little community pre school that packs a punch. Both my girls have benefited greatly from attending this setting with staff who really care and are always there to play, help or give a cuddle, just like family. There’s always a huge range of activities indoors and out for the children and the views from the outdoor play area are unsurpassed! We always looked forward to the annual sports day! Staff have their own specialisms too, making for a strong team. Makaton is widely used and there was often the homey smells of bread baking to greet you at pick up. All the staff at Treetops were so supportive and knowledgeable, giving my girls a fantastic learning journey, and teaching them independence, which set them up to go on to school with great confidence. I cannot thank you enough Team Treetops!!
