About this day nursery

Victoria Day Nursery, established in 2000, is a welcoming childcare setting in Barnsley for children aged 0-5 years. Open all year round, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm, except for bank holidays, the nursery provides a consistent and nurturing environment.

Children build strong relationships with friendly staff, who warmly greet them upon arrival. The engaging resources and activities planned by staff encourage children to explore and learn.

The curriculum is ambitious, designed to help children make good progress in their development and prepare them for school. Children learn to behave well, understanding rules and routines, and develop confidence through positive reinforcement.

Staff have a clear understanding of each child's development, allowing them to tailor support, such as using puppets to build concentration in babies or encouraging physical skills in older children through outdoor tricycle riding and climbing. Outdoor play is an integral part of the experience, with older children actively using spades to dig outdoors.

The nursery provides rich opportunities for children to learn about the world around them, including growing plants, observing life cycles, and engaging in walks in the local area. Fascinated children enjoy listening to stories told creatively by enthusiastic staff who introduce new vocabulary, fostering strong communication and language skills.

The nursery also provides plentiful opportunities for children to develop mathematical skills, from counting with babies in the sand to advanced problem-solving with older children. My daughter started here in September in the baby room and I’m so glad we chose this nursery. My daughter is happy when I drop her off and pick her up and I know she is getting the best care from everyone there. She loves going. All the staff are lovely and my daughter is really settled. The communication is great and we get to see what she has been doing regularly and she often brings home little keepsakes and drawings etc.

Excellent nursery. The staff are so friendly and have a genuine interest in the children and their wellbeing. My child has absolutely flourished since starting nursery and I have had no issues or concerns whatsoever. The variety and amount of food provided for the children is fantastic and I love that the nursery provides a paper summary of the activities my child has taken part in every day. The staff also took our home routine into consideration to make sure naps and feeding times are similar to at home. I would highly recommend this nursery!

As a concerned parent, I recently enrolled my child in Victoria Day Care with high hopes for a nurturing environment that fosters growth and development. However, my experience with the management, particularly the manager, has left me deeply disappointed and concerned. From the outset, interactions with the manager have been unprofessional and disheartening. Rather than fostering a supportive atmosphere, the manager’s demeanor often made me feel as though my child was underachieving or not meeting expectations. This attitude not only affected my confidence in the facility but also left me questioning the overall approach to childcare and education. Additionally, the lack of professionalism extended beyond personal interactions. Instances of miscommunication, disorganization, and disregard for parental concerns further exacerbated the situation. It became evident that the managerial issues were not isolated incidents but rather indicative of a systemic problem within the facility. As a parent, entrusting my child to a childcare provider requires a significant level of trust and confidence. Regrettably, the unprofessional conduct of the management at Victoria Day Care has eroded that trust and left me questioning the well-being and quality of care my child receives. In conclusion, while the facility may offer various programs and resources for child development, the negative impact of the unprofessional management cannot be overlooked. It is my hope that constructive feedback and necessary changes will be implemented to ensure a more supportive and professional environment for both parents and children in the future.
