Yellow Star Nursery, established in 2012 by a working mother, offers a nurturing and personalised environment for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Located in Wheathampstead, the nursery intentionally limits its numbers to ensure highly individualised care and foster strong relationships with each child and their family.
The dedicated team, consisting of qualified and experienced professionals, provides exceptional care within a stimulating, play-based setting designed to ignite curiosity, confidence, exploration, and discovery. Inclusion & environment
Babies and very young children practise climbing low, shallow steps before they slide down a short slide. Older children crawl through tunnels and move equipment around the garden, which helps to support their physical development. Children know that they need to line up before entering or leaving the garden.
Yellow Star Nursery holds such a special place in our hearts and I can’t recommend it highly enough to other parents. From the very beginning, Maddie and her team created a warm, welcoming and truly family-like environment where both children and parents felt valued and supported. The Yellow Star team were/are incredibly friendly, caring and attentive, and it was clear from day one how comfortable and happy my children were in their care. Both my sons absolutely thrived there – they built fantastic friendships, grew in confidence and enjoyed going in each day. What’s equally lovely is that the parents formed friendships too; it really felt like a supportive community. One of the most meaningful moments for me has been seeing my son come full circle. After attending Yellow Star as a toddler, he has now completed his Duke of Edinburgh volunteering there, helping the younger children. Seeing him give back to the same nurturing environment that helped shape him has been incredibly special. Yellow Star is more than just a nursery – it’s a caring, supportive community where children flourish and families feel connected. We are so grateful for everything they have done for our family. Thank you Maddie & Co.
Read on GoogleIf you want a nursery that feels like a family rather than a business, then Yellow Star is for you. From the very beginning, it felt like a place filled with warmth, and love and I always felt confident leaving my baby in their care. Maddie is such a kind and approachable person, and I always knew that if I ever needed to talk, she would be there. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and that reassurance as a parent means more than I can put into words. Every single member of the team is incredible. My son formed positive relationships, not only with his key worker but with all of his teachers. The staff take the time to really get to know each child, to understand them and celebrate who they are. They help them to grow in confidence and let their personalities shine. My son left Yellow Star to start Reception in September. He is one of the youngest in his class, but thanks to the brilliant foundation Yellow Star gave him, he was more than ready. He settled into school smoothly, full of confidence, kindness, and excitement to learn and make new friends. He still talks about Yellow Star and all the wonderful people there with so much love, and honestly, so do we. We miss it deeply, and we will always be grateful for the role they played in such an important chapter of his life.
Read on GoogleWe picked Yellow Star for our two boys and feel like it was one of the best decisions we made for them. They attended from the age of 1 until they went to school. The staff at Yellow Star gave them such wonderful nurturing care, and we really felt like part of a big family. I was completely confident that their wellbeing was prioritised, and they felt secure and safe. They came home with such fun stories about their day and the boys are so pleased to see the staff when they bump into them in the village. The Yellow Star preschool prepared the boys well for starting Reception, and made learning fun. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Yellow Star to any other parent.
Read on GoogleMy son attended Yellow Star from the age of 18 months until he started school. As we were new to the area and had experience of other nurseries with our older child, I can honestly say that Yellow Star is the most warm and nurturing environment any parent could hope for. The staff are incredibly passionate and professional, and my son thrived during his time there. The range and variety of activities on offer is fantastic, supporting both learning and development in a fun and engaging way. When it came time for him to leave, he was exceptionally well prepared to start reception, which I largely attribute to the excellent preschool work carried out at the nursery. I would not hesitate to recommend Yellow Star to any parent, it really is a very special place.
Read on GoogleYellow Star is such a special place and amazing nursery. Our daughter attended from 18 months, moving her from another nursery after moving house. It was the best decision we made. All the staff at Yellow Star are so wonderful, kind, patient - helped her settled in so well, fully understood her and cared for her so well. They were also so helpful going through dietary changes with intolerances, being fully understanding and supportive. Having experience of another nursery, there isn’t anywhere else I would send my children! My daughter was so happy there - excited to go, and when leaving for school, still talks about nursery regularly over a year on!
