Yew Trees Nursery, located in Axbridge, Somerset, offers childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years, operating Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm year-round. Situated on an expansive 11-acre rural site, the nursery boasts large outdoor play areas, providing children with ample opportunities for exploration and learning through a play-based curriculum that emphasises outdoor activities.

Children engage in hands-on experiences such as caring for chickens, collecting eggs, and cultivating plants and vegetables. The nursery focuses on child-led learning, allowing children to develop their muscles, stimulate their imagination, and investigate their environment at their own pace.

It is part of the YMCA Dulverton Group, which works with over 20,000 children and young people annually across North Somerset, West Somerset, Devon, and Somerset. The nursery is divided into specific rooms for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, each designed to provide a stimulating and supportive environment for age-appropriate development.

Yew Trees Nursery strives to foster confidence, independence, and a willingness to learn through its play-based approach, preparing children for future educational stages.

Our ethos

We are a child led setting, we consider the interests and developmental needs and learning of each individual child in our planning, however ultimately we recognise the value of play and allowing each child to learn through play. This enables children freedom to decide how long they spend on a particular activity, the methods and resources they wish to use or if they want to switch activities all together.

What it's like

Children are happy, active learners, making full use of the well-organised environment. They enjoy healthy meals and lots of opportunities to be outdoors. Staff provide good support for children's language skills throughout the nursery.
